Making Your Time Count!
By: Marc Entz
Make Time Your Friend -
You must pursue your purpose with determination to meet your goals. Yet sometimes it seems to take a long time to get things done. It helps to create an action plan first. List the things needed to be done in order for the job to be accomplished. Then determine the best order for those things to be done in.
Complete each of these requirements and make a note what things have been done. The learning curve for any job will allow you to do the same work faster the more times you do it. Concentrate on doing a quality job the first time, and you will also learn the techniques involved in the process better.
Value Time -
Don’t waste time on little things that have very little benefit. Phone calls or drop in visits seem harmless at first, yet consume a lot of time. And don’t waste other people’s time either. Or neither of you will get much done.
Have an Action Plan -
Know ahead of time what your activities are going to be. Be sure that everyone else knows what to expect from you. Carry out your plan, and expect to meet your short term goal in a reasonable amount of time. Focus on doing quality work and accomplishing your main task at hand. Expect delays and plan extra time for them.
Do What Works -
Find out when you work best. Watch for and get rid of habits that are unproductive. Delegate certain nonessential tasks to others. Remove any tasks from your agenda that are not needed.
Be a Problem Solver -
Complaining wastes time. Find a way you can help or find someone else who can help you solve the problem. The bottom line here is to find a solution to the problem that will satisfy the requirements for getting the job done accurately. You will be judged in the end by the quality of your work, not how fast you get it done.
Do The Hard Work First -
You will have more time to relax with your easy work after the hard work is done. Don’t procrastinate. You will only give yourself a headache if you let your work pile up.
Review Your Progress and Reward Yourself -
What went right this time? How can I improve next time? These are questions you should ask yourself. Lastly, reward yourself with a small treat or a moment to relax for a job well done.
