Sometimes the keys to successful time management have nothing to do with planners, schedules or organization technique. Instead, changes of viewpoint can make all the difference in the world. These epiphanies can transform one’s outlook regarding time and how it is handled. One of the most important recognitions is understanding time, not as a menacing clock ticking away, but as a valuable commodity. Read the rest of this entry »

In a recent article entitled:
“C. Cheng Interviews Dr. Arrizza On The Issue Of Procrastination.”
I delineated two underlying scenarios which lead to the phenomenon of procrastination. I summarize these two scenarios here:
In Case (A) the main factors causing procrastination result from the unwillingness of the individual to do something that is not desired by them internally. Hence the procrastination is a way of the individual attempting to assert control over a situation in the only way they can. It is very much like saying to the “powers that be” “No I Don’t Want To Do This”.
In Case (B) this situation is somewhat more complex. When an individual is unable to muster up the energy to do something they really want for themselves it’s often because they are being undermined by some sort of fear that they are carrying within themselves. For instance the fear of making a mistake, the fear of failing, the fear of being disappointed, the fear of being criticized or judged, the fear of success and so on. These fears essentially undermine the individual’s confidence, their self esteem, and their self worth, depletes their energy and makes them feel so inadequate and unable to be in charge of their life that they essentially give up trying. Sherry was behind on many important things in her life. She had unpaid traffic tickets, the insurance on her car had lapsed, she had a stack of unpaid bills, and her apartment was a mess. Sherry was not happy with this situation, yet seemed unable to do anything about it. Even when she set aside the time to get these things done, something always got in the way.
Sherry consulted with me because things had finally reached a point where her life was actually breaking down from her procrastination. She had had a minor car accident that she had to pay for due to her unpaid insurance, and her phone had recently been shut off due to her unpaid bills. She was angry and frustrated with herself yet found herself doing the bare minimum - just enough to get by. What was keeping her so stuck? Read the rest of this entry »

Time can be your friend or your enemy. For many people who have “free time” to accomplish long-term projects or writing tasks, it is a merciless tyrant. It is just too easy to allow the slightly harder task to slide, as you fill in your day with the humdrum and the emergencies. Read the rest of this entry »

The top two things that people seem to want more of are money and time. As a matter of fact, more money and more time are the top two issues people come to life coaches for (they also happen to be the top two excuses people use for not hiring a coach). It would be great if we had a money tree and a time tree in our backyard. That way if we ran out of either, we could just walk outside and pluck some off the tree. Unfortunately, God didn’t make those kinds of trees. Probably because He wanted us to become good stewards of our money and time. Just like we can learn to better manage our finances, there are things we can do to improve our time management. Outlined below are seven tips for gaining more time.

Make Time Your Friend -
You must pursue your purpose with determination to meet your goals. Yet sometimes it seems to take a long time to get things done. It helps to create an action plan first. List the things needed to be done in order for the job to be accomplished. Then determine the best order for those things to be done in.

Probably the most common element that I see in clients who can’t get things done is interruption. The kids, spouse, or other obligations are always “getting in the way” of their music careers.
